Further to recent communications by email, we are writing to inform you of a security incident that may have affected your personal information held by MacNean Restaurant on one of our reservation systems. We take the protection of your data seriously and want to be transparent about what happened, what information may have been involved, and what we are doing to protect you.

On or around the 25th September 2025, we identified and investigated a security incident that involved unauthorised access to one of our reservation systems, that is provided by a third party booking solutions provider. It became clear that we were the victim of criminal cyber security hacking attack.  The incident was contained and we are currently investigating this further with the third party booking solutions provider. We have reported the incident to the relevant authorities as required and are reviewing our security controls to prevent a recurrence.

The following information that may have been accessed:

  • Your full name
  • Dates booked
  • Your email address and phone number
  • Purchase cost (i.e. the total amount due for your reservation)

We want to be clear that no other sensitive data has been accessed as no other customer information was held on the compromised system.

Customer debit/credit card information is securely held by Stripe on a second secure booking system that we use and only displays the last 4 digits of a customer’s debit/credit card to staff members for verification.

What we’re doing

  • We have contained the incident and implemented additional security measures to reduce the risk of a recurrence.
  • We are engaging independent security experts to conduct a thorough investigation.
  • We are reviewing and strengthening our data handling, access controls, and monitoring capabilities.
  • We have notified relevant supervisory authorities in accordance with GDPR and Irish law.
